David Lipsitz, MD, writing as David Uri, was raised in Colorado skiing without a hat, shirt, or too much sense. Somehow he ended up a novelist and surgeon living in North Carolina.
His fiction explores mortality, identity, and the disturbing boundary between memory and truth. His novel Sky of Memory draws on his own experience of surviving a coma—a surgeon encountering healthcare from the other side of the bed.
David is a fiction prize and fellowship reader for The Center for Fiction in Brooklyn. His writing has been developed through workshops, writing groups, and work with established authors and editors.
Beyond fiction, David works to improve health access for diverse communities and develop innovative healthcare solutions. He has an extensive history of medical publication, lecturing, and media work.
In his spare time, David gives reclaimed trees a second life.
